The main event of this weekend is what is called "Serenading", where the freshmen from the different houses write a song about how much they love the seniors and perform it for the in competition with the other dorms.
Lathrop's "song" was to Britney Spears's(?) "I'm a slave for you". Other dorms did such classics as "California Girls" by Katy Perry, "Telephone" by Lady Gaga, and other annoyingly catchy pop songs.
The dorm decorated horrendous pink shirts in the morning, and then we waited for the seniors to come calling. [Background info: In years past, the seniors have come to dorms and squirted ketchup/mustard/water/anything, but this year they were only allowed to pour water on us. Yet somehow I got orange residue all over my shorts as well as glitter all over me.]
Lathrop has a history of "taking it" meaning that we don't fight back against the seniors, we literally crawled out the dorm, down the stairs, onto the grass while the seniors pelted us with water balloons and sprayed us with their squirt guns.
We then ran to the field where we would be performing, and waited while the other dorms came, often chanting our Lathrop cheer ("L-A-T-L-A-T-H-R-OP").
Unfortunately, although we practiced the song and dance multiple times, no one from my dorm remembered 1) The beginning chant 2) The tune of the song 3) The words of the song or 4) Our dance moves. So, quite obviously, we lost...with great pride, while having the most fun among all the dorms.
Woo hoo, always lose with pride and enjoy yourself.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!! It couldn't have been all that bad if glitter was involved!
ReplyDeleteMy hat is eternally off to you for attempting Britney. And don't worry about the dance, even I had a hard time learning it ;)
