On sunday, Maggie and I headed out mid-morning to join the Outing Club in an adventure in apple picking in nearby Marlboro, NY.
The orchard that we went to had rows and rows of apple trees, hayrides, a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, and a variety of very fun things. While they had other fruits/veggies there, our main priority was apple picking. I know that I've had an apple right off the tree in Alaska before, but NY state apples are a totally different breed. I've never encountered the differences of tastes/looks between so many different kinds of apples. I discovered that honey crisp apples are my new favorite kind of apple.
After picking apples, Maggie and I lunched on smoked salmon and crackers and then filled up our tummies by having a dessert consisting of apple cider and apple cider donuts. We also sampled the fresh salsas/dips that the orchard sold.
It was a very wonderful day, and it was really nice to get off campus to enjoy the surrounding area.
What a great adventure. Honeycrisps are my absolute fave (also the absolute most expensive!)

WOW! Sounds like a fun day for sure. Love the apple in her mouth (Maggie) and the beautiful smile on her face. Life is good in the apple orchard!
ReplyDeleteOne of my best college memories is picking apples at my cousin Greta's grandparent's place in Jeffers, Montana. It was such a thrill to have apples off the tree. (Their apples were small, green, and tart, but we still loved them.)
