Vanderbilt Mansion

Vassar College has recently started this program called "Meet Me in Poughkeepsie" where vassar organizations/classes put on meetups in the surrounding area of Vassar where students can sign up for up to two events to do. I signed up to go on a tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion (or...one of the vanderbilt mansions) in Hyde Park, NY (the same place where the Roosevelts lived, about 20 minutes away from Vassar).

We were given yummy empanadas for lunch and then played around on the grounds until we went on our tour. The tourguide was really interesting/entertaining, which is always good. I learned a lot about the gilded age/the vanderbilt family, which was very cool. The house was obviously quite beautiful and the area surrounding it was equally pretty.

And the best part is that I didn't have to pay anything, which was quite the steal.
