Weekend Wrap Up

Sorry for my lack of any substantive on friday, my computer was being so glitzy that I decided I shoudln't test it with prolonged internet use...but somehow, it automatically fixed itself; so I'm just not going to ask questions.

This weekend, the debate team went to Wesleyan University for our debate tournament. Wesleyan is a nice 2 hr drive from Vassar, which felt considerably shorter than the 4 hours we usually drive. We were even the first team there!

We all went up against some hard teams on friday, so our records wern't looking too good, but we had fun friday night going to a local diner and visiting with other teams.

The next day, we finished our debate rounds and went to the debate banquet of yummy thai food. While my partner and I only won 2 out of our 5 rounds, we did pretty well in our "bracket." Debate is broken down into two categories, novices (those who have debated for less than a year) or varsity (those who have debated more than a year), and the only novice team that we debated, we beat them. All the other teams we went against were Princeton sophomores, Brown juniors, and Yale seniors (oh my!)...However, the team that we beat from UConn, ended up being in novice finals, meaning that they had a better record than us; probably because they went against other novices...oh well.

On saturday night, I was so tired when I came back that I needed to take a nap before going out to see a musical with my friends, after this was over; we parted ways for them to attend some parties and for me to go back to sleep.

Sunday was filled with a lot of work, I spent 3 hours at the library going through foreign relations cables of the United States from 1958...oodles of fun, let me tell you.

The picture is of my president and my debate partner arguing between rounds.

  2. It doesn't seem fair to put Novices against seniors! Your debating seems super fun but keeps you on an insanely busy schedule! Sounds like Will, Kincaid, and Duke had a wonderful time at Konrad's birthday party this weekend.
