Debate in PA

Again. Where did this weekend go?

On Friday, we made our merry way to Swathmore College (right outside Philadelphia) and while it's supposed to take 3.5 hours to get there, it took us about 4.5...for some reason, our gps told us that we had to drive through Princeton's campus to get to Swathmore College (which...while it got us there, was much slower than any other way.) It was also raining really hard, which just made the day slightly unpleasant. We were almost dropped from the first round, but we were able to convince them to delay the first round until we got there.

The first day, my partner and I won 2 out of our 3 rounds....we lost our first round to a really good team from Rutgers who ended up going to finals. By that night, we were pretty excited, and had a lot of fun at the team's social.

The next day fared a little worse, we were put up against this extremely eloquent Yale team who ended up beating our case pretty mirthlessly....then we went up another Rutgers team who had a really annoying case that we wern't quite sure how to argue. Both of these two teams made it to finals too...

So we didn't break to the next round, I think it was because we didn't go up against any novice teams, and 3 of the 5 teams we went up against were really excellent. However, the second day the weather was absolutely beautiful, and Swathmore was so full of flowers.

The drive back was much more merry, as we made good time and had a few rounds of sing-a-long songs.

I came back that night and rested and then went to my friend's birthday party, but then ended up going to bed fairly early as I was just too tuckered out.

The pictures are of the drive there, a pretty tree on campus, and an amusing sign that I saw on the way back...

  2. Sounds like there is some stiff competition out there! I think that it is so neat that you get to check out all of these other campuses!

  3. Years ago I often thought of putting out a sign like that myself--three girls, etc., etc.

What a great freshman year! You're really making the most of college. I'm glad because it's a once in a lifetime experience--being a freshman, that is.
