London

Upon arriving in London and getting on a bus at Victoria Station to take me to Waterloo, I reach into my bag to get my camera to take a picture of Big Ben, I turn it on and notice my memory card was gone....no pictures of London, but I had such a great first trip that I'll try to describe it you! Pictures from my friends' cameras should be coming soon!

  • Took the Oxford Tube to London (about 15 dollars round trip, the way there took 2.5 hours because of traffic, but the way back was more like 1.5 hours)
  • Wander around Victoria Station, try to take the Tube, discover that the main track is closed and that taking a bus will be easier. Have a beautiful bus ride when we see Big Ben, the London Eye, Parliament, The Cathedral of St. Paul and the like. Seeing Big Ben made me miss my brother Will and wish he could see it.
  • Arrive in Waterloo, which is in South Bank, the "cultural center of Oxford."
  • Walk to the Tate Modern Museum, one of the most famous modern art museums in the world. See Picassos, Warhols, Monets, etc. And a lot of really strange stuff.
  • Wander to a Cuban Restaurant I found in my guide book in time for happy hour. Delicious Cuban food (like better than Cuba) and pitchers of Mojitos and Pina Coladas.
  • Go to my friend Ruby's great aunt's flat in North London, which was SUPER nice, a friendly Serbian couple was also staying there.
  • We meet up with friends at a pub near the Baker Street tube stop. Yes, the same Baker Street from Sherlock Holmes. We go to a hip student club with a super hip name ("Fabric")
  • Grab some pizza and take a taxi back to the flat.
  • Sleep in a bit, get on the tube back to Victoria, and arrive back at Oxford around 2pm.
Such a fun trip. I'm trying my best to not be such a "cheapskate" (my mom's word choice) and London is definitely pricier than Oxford, which I didn't know was possible.

  1. It sounds like a wonderful time and brought back memories for me. I had a great time wandering around London on my own, but everything is pricey!
